All of the pups are so very adorable. They are gaining weight quickly and are growing larger day by day. We have all started to fall into our normal routine with the puppies, and the sleep deprivation of this past week is turning into a distant memory. Although, as I just held back a yawn while typing, I suppose it still may linger just a bit. Welcoming a new litter of puppies into the world is very similar to the experience of bringing a new baby home from the hospital. There are so many joys all in the midst of dirty laundry, sleepless nights, and sweet anticipation of the future.
Shiloh has recovered fully from her fever, and it seems a touch of mastitis may have been the cause. She most definitely has a more than ample milk supply for these little pups. That may account for the wonderful weight gain we have seen in the litter. It has been less than a week, and there has been such a transformation in the puppies. The yellows - Clay and Flora - are starting to gain their dark pigment that will soon fill in around their muzzles, pads of paws, noses, and eye rims. You can clearly see the splotches, especially evident on the pads of the paws.
It is miraculous to witness the gradual transformation. Oh, sometimes the simple pleasures of life are the very best! We seem to strive after all kinds of things that we hope will provide us with lasting satisfaction; when enjoying the pure, simple blessings along the journey are oftentimes the real treasures. Puppies are some of those precious blessings. When these little ones are 4 weeks old, we welcome all of you future puppy parents to visit, and witness what I am talking about for yourselves. I could watch them for hours, and I know you will enjoy them too :)
