The puppies have turned two weeks old, and as of today, all of their eyes are open. Although their vision is blurry, they can begin to see the world for the very first time. The two week mark is such an exciting developmental milestone for the litter, and the upcoming week is one that is full of exciting social and developmental changes.
We finished performing BioSensor Therapy yesterday. The early developmental period has just flown by! Each of the chocolate puppies in the litter is gaining terrific weight, and they can now walk about in the whelping pen with a bit more purpose and efficiency. They still sleep for a majority of the day, and nurse for the rest of their waking hours. However, this heavy need for sleep will begin to diminish during the next week as the puppies begin to spend more time exploring and socializing.
At two weeks they are just embarking on an exciting transitional period in their development that will occur during this upcoming week. It's a time of rapid change when each puppy begins to show some of the traits that they will retain into adulthood. They start to display their first social signals, like wagging their tail, barking, growling and play fighting with the litter.
This week is one that is full of anticipation, as we look forward to watching the puppies open up to the world around them! I will be sure to capture some videos of their first interactions... Those first social moments are absolutely adorable!
