Every lasting match begins with deep understanding.
At Kingridge, puppies are not placed on a first come, first served basis. We take the time to understand each family's home, daily rhythm, experience, expectations, and hopes for life with a Kingridge Labrador. At the same time, we closely observe each puppy's developing temperament, energy level, confidence, responsiveness, sensitivity, and natural way of connecting with people.
Just as every family is unique, so is every puppy. Our goal is to bring those two stories together with extraordinary care, guiding each family toward the puppy whose individual qualities offer the greatest promise for a deeply compatible and lasting relationship.

A Relationship Designed to Last
The process begins with our puppy application, which introduces us to your family, your lifestyle, and your hopes for a future Kingridge Labrador. Because we are deeply invested in the lifelong well-being of every puppy we raise, placement begins by thoughtfully selecting the families we believe are best aligned with our dogs, our values, and the level of commitment a Kingridge puppy deserves.
After reviewing each application, we reach out to families to discuss the next steps in our placement process. Families who are ultimately welcomed onto the Kingridge waiting list then complete our detailed puppy personality inventory, allowing us to learn more about their household rhythm, activity level, previous dog experience, training goals, preferred temperament, and the role they envision for their Labrador. As the litter develops, we compare each family's unique personality with weeks of documented observations gathered through daily interaction, socialization, enrichment, and early training experiences. This careful process allows us to consider not simply whether a family would like one of our puppies, but which home offers the environment that is best suited for each puppy in a litter.
Independent Evaluation
Fresh Eyes. Meaningful Insight.
At approximately seven weeks of age, each puppy in the litter receives a thorough obedience and personality evaluation administered by an independent evaluator who is unfamiliar with the puppies. Because the evaluator has no prior relationship with the litter, each puppy is observed with fresh eyes under consistent conditions. This evaluation helps reveal subtle but meaningful differences in confidence, responsiveness, sensitivity, persistence, learning style, and social engagement. The results do not determine placement on their own, but they do provide an important additional layer of insight, along with the many weeks of observation already gathered at Kingridge.
BRINGING EVERY PIECE TOGETHER
A Recommendation Made with Extraordinary Care
Once the independent evaluations are complete, we consider the whole picture. Each puppy's developing temperament, our documentation from birth, responses during socialization and training, the evaluator's findings, and the family's preferences in the completed Puppy Personality Inventory.
We then reach out to each Kingridge family on the waiting list to share what we have observed, and recommend which puppy or puppies appear best suited to their home and lifestyle. Our role is not simply to assign a puppy, but to guide an informed and thoughtful match that provides the greatest potential for harmony, connection, and long term success.
Our hope is not merely for a joyful day when families come to pick up their long awaited puppy, but for each family to look back years later and feel that the little Labrador placed in their arms on that special day was in every meaningful way the one meant for them.
