1 Kingridge Puppy Package
We provide every new puppy family with detailed information about their Labrador from birth in a beautifully organized Kingridge Journal. It includes milestones, AKC paperwork, journal entries, and the results of our Early Neurological Stimulation, Early Scent Introduction, Seven Steps of Socialization, Temperament Testing, and Puppy Obedience Training. Together, these create a meaningful record of your puppy’s earliest weeks and a keepsake you can treasure for years to come. The book also includes detailed training exercises to help you continue the work we have begun, along with plenty of space to record your puppy’s progress once they are home. Each puppy leaves Kingridge with helpful training resources, homemade organic treats, a stuffed animal carrying the familiar scent of the litter, and a supply of the food they are accustomed to eating. Each puppy also goes home with their own new crate introduced during their time at Kingridge, so it is already a familiar and comfortable space by homecoming day. We also document each litter through photographs and video, giving families a special glimpse into the earliest days of their puppy’s life.2 An Exceptional Health Guarantee
Every Kingridge litter is carefully planned using parents who have undergone exhaustive health and genetic testing, going far beyond basic requirements to screen for the widest possible range of known hereditary conditions. This includes OFA evaluations of the hips and elbows, annual eye examinations, cardiac testing, and extensive breed-specific genetic screening. Although no testing can guarantee that a puppy will never experience a health concern, these clearances allow us to make the most informed and responsible breeding decisions possible. AKC registration alone does not mean that a dog has been thoroughly health tested or is necessarily an appropriate candidate for breeding. We believe responsible breeders have an obligation to look far beyond registration and carefully consider the health, structure, temperament, and genetic background of every dog they breed. We take that responsibility very seriously and provide each family with documentation of the parents’ health clearances, along with our written puppy health guarantee, which provides protection against genetic disorders for the entire life of the puppy.
3 Medical Records of Each Puppy's Health (day 1 - day of adoption)
From the day each puppy is born, we carefully document their individual growth and health. Every puppy is identified by a colored ribbon, allowing us to maintain detailed records of weight, physical development, medications, deworming, vaccinations, veterinary visits, and any other care received while at Kingridge. These records are provided to each family so they have a clear and complete account of their puppy’s health history from birth. Our puppies receive age-appropriate preventive care under the guidance of our veterinarian and leave Kingridge with the vaccinations, deworming, and health documentation appropriate for their age. We do not routinely remove dewclaws, as we believe they serve a natural purpose and do not wish to subject very young puppies to an unnecessary procedure. The AKC permits Labrador Retrievers to compete in the show ring with or without dewclaws, so this is ultimately a matter of breeder preference rather than a requirement.
4 Early Neurological and Scent Stimulation (day 3 - day 16)
Using the biosensor method of early neurological stimulation, along with early scent introduction, we gently expose each puppy to carefully controlled tactile, positional, thermal, and scent experiences during this important stage of development. These carefully controlled experiences are designed to help puppies become more adaptable and better prepared to handle new situations as they grow. We believe these earliest days offer a remarkable opportunity to support each puppy’s physical, mental, and emotional development from the very beginning, laying a strong foundation for future learning and working potential.
5 Seven Steps of Socialization (4 weeks - day of adoption)
Our Labrador puppies are raised in an enriching environment filled with carefully planned opportunities to explore, learn, and experience the world around them. Through our Seven Steps of Socialization, each puppy is gradually introduced to new sights, sounds, surfaces, people, objects, and everyday situations in a way that builds confidence without overwhelming them. Their natural curiosity is encouraged as they learn to approach change with greater comfort and resilience. These purposeful early experiences remain with our Labradors through adolescence and into adulthood, helping lay the foundation for dogs who are confident, adaptable, and prepared for life with their families. We also make use of music therapy that helps to soothe and calm crying pups during times of transition.
6 Puppy Obedience Training (4 weeks - day of adoption)
During this final critical month, each lab puppy is introduced to the foundations of early training. They begin crate training and potty training outdoors, learn to sit and stay, and gain confidence walking on lead. We also place particular emphasis on name recognition once a puppy is selected, whistle recall, encouraging a soft mouth for retrieving, and gently discouraging undesirable behavior such as jumping and inappropriate playbiting. These short positive training experiences are woven naturally into each puppy's daily routine, helping good habits begin to take shape during an especially formative stage of development. By the time they leave Kingridge, our puppies have already been given a meaningful head start, making it easier for their families to continue building on the foundation we have begun.
7 Puppy Personality Testing and Family Inventory (7 weeks)
This thorough test was developed by Stanley Coren and continues to be used as an accurate indication of puppy personality and temperament. Each Labrador puppy in the litter is tested by an independent administrator who is unfamiliar with the puppies. In this way, the testing remains as objective and consistent as possible, and the results give us another valuable perspective on each puppy. The test allows us to observe how each puppy responds to unfamiliar people, gentle handling, new situations, restraint, sound, movement, and other carefully presented experiences. It helps reveal the sometimes subtle differences that exist between puppies in the same litter, including confidence, sensitivity, independence, willingness to follow, sociability, and adaptability. This testing is just one of the tools we use when placing our puppies into their new homes. We consider the results alongside everything we have observed throughout each puppy’s development, as well as the needs, lifestyle, and hopes of each family that we ascertain from each family's completed Puppy Personality Inventory. Together, this information helps us guide each family toward the puppy whose personality and temperament appear to be the best fit for them.
8 Communication (Every Step of the Way)

That communication becomes especially important once your family has joined our waiting list and we begin learning more about you. We then consider all of this alongside our own careful observations, each puppy’s temperament evaluation, and everything we have learned about them throughout those important early weeks.Just as every person and family is unique, so is each Labrador Retriever puppy born here at Kingridge.
